Wheezing is the sound produced when you breathe. It is caused by a narrow respiratory tract, which makes breathing difficult. A narrow tract can lead to blockages, irritation, infection, and asthma.
Here are some home remedies to try for wheezing caused by asthma, allergies, and bronchitis.
It is always advisable to consult a doctor before attempting any home treatment.
1. Mustard oil
Mustard oil helps open the respiratory tract and relieves the discomfort caused by breathing obstruction.
2. Lemon
Lemons have high vitamin C content and are a good remedy for wheezing. Lemons contain vitamins and antioxidants that help alleviate asthma symptoms. Simply drink a glass of lemon water every day.
Avoid using bottled lemonade.
3. Eucalyptus oil
Pure eucalyptus oil is a natural remedy that effectively treats wheezing due to asthma. It contains decongestant components that help eliminate mucus. Place a few drops of oil on a tissue near your head when you sleep. Alternatively, you can boil a few drops of oil and inhale the steam. Repeat this daily for the best results.
4. Ginger
Ginger, a common spice found in every household, is often used to treat asthma. To prevent wheezing, you can try one of these methods:
- Mix equal parts of ginger juice, honey, and pomegranate juice. Take one tablespoon of this mixture several times a day.
- Mix one teaspoon of ginger with half a cup of water and drink it before bedtime.
- Boil a small piece of ginger in water for 4 minutes. Let it cool and drink.
- Boil one tablespoon of grass seeds, honey, and ginger juice together in water. Drink this mixture in the morning and evening.
5. Figs
Figs are beneficial for wheezing due to their nutrient content. They can alleviate breathing difficulties, promote sputum release, and improve respiratory health.
Wash three or four dried figs and soak them overnight in water. Eat them in the morning on an empty stomach and drink the soaked water.
6. Garlic
Garlic is an excellent remedy for respiratory conditions and relieves asthma symptoms and wheezing. Boil around three garlic cloves with a little milk, let it cool, and drink it. Include garlic in your diet to strengthen your immune system.
7. Honey
Honey is a highly effective remedy for wheezing in children. Mix honey in a glass of hot water and drink it 2-3 times a day. Before bedtime, consume a teaspoon of honey sprinkled with a little cinnamon powder. This helps remove sputum from the throat and can improve sleep.
8. Vegetables and fruits
Blueberries, oranges, strawberries, and papaya are nutrient-rich fruits that promote respiratory health and ease breathing. Fruits are packed with minerals, vitamins, and important nutrients that help combat wheezing.
9. Onion
Onions have anti-inflammatory effects and can help reduce respiratory spasms and pneumonia. Consume a small amount of onion daily to open the respiratory tract. You can also cook onions for children to consume.
