I’m passionate about gadgets, especially trying out new phones.

Last year, I impulsively decided to get the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, and I couldn’t have been happier with my choice.

There were several reasons I liked Samsung: the user-friendly interface, the availability of important options that other companies should consider, additional storage, and useful applications.

The only issue I encountered with the phone was the edge display. It served no purpose for me and was a bit tricky to hold since touching the edges would unintentionally open apps.

Recently, I purchased the Samsung Galaxy S7, and I’m totally smitten with it!

This model was released in March 2016 and is available in five colours: Black, White, Gold, Silver, and Pink Gold.

Currently, it’s only available with 32 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card, and it boasts 4 GB of RAM, making it faster than its predecessor.

Design-wise, it’s similar to the Galaxy S6, which was one of the most visually appealing phones at the time. However, the S7 feels slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor.

Both the front and back of the phone are covered in Gorilla Glass 4, with a metal rim sandwiched in between.

Featuring a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, the S7 offers an enjoyable viewing experience for images, videos, and gaming due to its sharp screen.

It can feel a bit slippery in the hand and is prone to fingerprints, so using a phone cover is recommended for protection.

Similar to the Galaxy S6, this model has volume buttons on one side and a lock/standby switch on the other. The speaker and headphone jack are located at the bottom of the phone. Samsung has wisely reintroduced the microSD slot. The back of the phone has a camera lens that sits flatter compared to the previous model. Additionally, this phone is water-resistant, although the speaker sound quality suffers slightly as a result.

The 12-megapixel camera captures sharp photos with vibrant colours. The introduction of Dual Pixel technology for autofocus and improved low-light performance ensures smooth and high-quality results.

Equipped with a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery, the S7 offers better battery life compared to the Galaxy S6. In simple terms, you can go a full day without needing to charge it. However, I can only provide more accurate feedback on this aspect after a few months of usage.

Samsung has also introduced an ‘Always On’ display feature, allowing the phone to show the time and date, and enabled notifications even when locked, without consuming excessive battery power.

What I enjoy most about Samsung phones is the split-screen option. It provides the freedom to watch YouTube videos or browse Facebook while simultaneously replying to emails or chatting with friends on WhatsApp.

Another crucial feature of Samsung phones is the ‘ultra power saving’ mode. When your phone battery is low and there’s no charging port nearby, you can switch to ultra power saving mode. The entire screen turns black and white, background apps stop functioning, and only a few essential applications remain accessible.

Now it’s your turn to share. Let me know which phone you currently use and what would motivate you to switch to another smartphone.
